Before you call my house and try to sell me oceanfront property in Utah, let me explain. First, you’ll need to get a big dictionary. If you look, you’ll see several definitions for the word, ‘want.’ Most of the definitions mean, ‘to lack’ and only one definition means, ‘to desire.’ A wise man pointed out to me that if I desired to know the correct meaning of a word, I might have to hunt down an English dictionary that was printed prior to 1946. The reason for that is after 1946, dictionaries started to change definitions to reflect the word’s informal usage instead of their original meaning.

So let’s look at how the word want is a key component of poverty consciousness. When people say, “I want,” they’re saying, “I lack.” If you say, “I want more money,” you’ll start to lack more and more. When you begin to pay attention to what you think or say, you’ll see how you’re creating the abundance or the lack of abundance that’s showing up in your life.

Listen to people who have true wealth. The word want rarely comes up in their conversation. They don’t have the idea that want is a part of their life. For them, everything is about having it, getting it, going for it and allowing it. Ask yourself, “What would it take for the word want to fall out of my vocabulary?” Instead of creating from, “I want money,’ allow yourself to create from, “I don’t want money,” because every time you say, “I want more money,’ you’re saying, ‘I lack of it’—and that’s exactly what shows up in your life.

If you’re still not convinced, try this exercise. Say, “I don’t want money,” ten times. Do it, because I’ll know if you’re cheating. “I don’t want money. I don’t want money. I don’t want money. I don’t want money. I don’t want money. I don’t want money. I don’t want money. I don’t want money. I don’t want money. I don’t want money.”

What happened? Did you feel lighter or heavier? If you cracked a smile or laughed a little, it means you felt lighter and it may have created a sense of possibility. Heaviness, on the other hand, can create a sense of contraction and less possibility. The wise man I mentioned earlier likes to say, “If it’s light, it’s right. If it’s heavy, it’s a lie.” If you’re like most people, saying, “I don’t want money,” made you feel lighter. The truth of you is, you don’t lack of money, and saying so shows you’re willing to bring it on. You can create receiving in your life by saying it ten times every morning.

Next time you hear someone say, “I want money,” just give them a knowing smile and reply, “I don’t want money.” If you would like to learn about more radical ideas on how to build wealth, visit: www.RightRichesForYou.com.
